A new angel is joining Supernatural‘s flock, and we’ve got an exclusive first look at Curtis Armstrong (Revenge of the Nerds, Moonlighting) as Metatron, the reclusive scribe of God.

Armstrong makes his debut in the May 1 episode (The CW, 9/8c) — penned by fan favorite Ben Edlund — when Dean and Sam seek out the heavenly creature to fill in the holes in Kevin’s research.

FEELING LUCKY TONIGHT? – When Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) receive a distressing video message from Kevin Tran (guest star Osric Chau), they set about trying to uncover the Third Trial. The boys make a discovery that sends them to a casino in Colorado, to find a mysterious recluse (guest star Curtis Armstrong) who may be able to fill in the holes in Kevin’s research. Meanwhile, Crowley (guest star Mark Sheppard) is on a winning streak. Castiel (Misha Collins) tries to elude Naomi (guest star Amanda Tapping) and the angels hunting him. Robert Duncan McNeill directed the episode written by Ben Edlund (#821)

Episode 8.21 will see the introduction of a new character. This character will appear in episodes 8.21/8.22 and 8.23 and has the possibility for more appearances in Season 9.

His name is “Metatron” and is an aged angel, the scribe of God and has been around before the time of Adam and Eve. He is described as a cross between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Virgil Kent/Keyser Söze.

CASTIEL AWAKENS FROM HIS COMATOSE STATE — Meg (guest star Rachel Miner) calls Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) and tells them Castiel (guest star Misha Collins) is awake and talking.  Meanwhile, a teenager named Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) gets hit by a bolt of lightening and is turned into a reluctant prophet.  Sam and Dean believe Kevin holds the key to defeating the Leviathans but must fight off two Archangels who want him for their own purposes.  The episode was written and directed by Ben Edlund (#721).
