Howdy lovers of Supernatural!!  This ep had so many references to pop culture that I will just list them later! We go from the teaser shoot-out, to the inital scene of a real live hanging onto the boys & Bobby searching & finding in a cellar, the Campbell family library. What we discover is something that will kill “the mother”, the ashes of a Phoeniz which Sam Colt has killed! Dean instantly thinks that time travel is the answer & yes it is! Long story short here(!): Castiel sends the boys back for 24 hrs. because the longer they are gone the harder it is for Cas to bring them back, they find Sam Colt, he’s not suprised to see a giant from the future with a “thingamajig” (cellphone) because he’s a retired hunter himself,  Dean with the Colt kills the Phoeniz in a shootout. The Phoeniz is just a monster/man who fries people with a touch, Dean has no choice but to kill him, gather his ashes & then beam back home!

Sam’s best moments start instantly: he doesn’t want to play dress up, he of course steps in horse poo 150 yrs later, tries to get on a horse from the wrong side, is a TAD bit too large for his horse, is not intimidated by Sam Colt(great scene!), & gets the Colt to Dean just in the nick of a gunfighting time! FYI: Sam Henning plays a great Sam Colt, he is Sam Colt, right? Matt Armstrong does a mean Phoeniz! Dean’s moments are many: he buys cowboy clothing at Wally World, his excitement about the romantic wild west is contagious until he just has enough with everyone picking on his clothing(he buys more & yes, as he says, ” he does look good!”), the saloon is “not awesome”, & the girls are much germier & dirtier than he thought! Dean is a “posse magnet”, his own words, Sheriff Eastwood, & even though he has minutes left before he HAS to get the Phoeniz’s ashes & Sam to beam home, Dean calls out the Phoeniz in a gunfight that, really, is Dean’s dream! With the Colt, he fires,  kills the Phoeniz BUT hastily drops the Colt while trying to get the ashes & then doesn’t get the ashes before he & Sam are in Bobby’s abode. We see Dean disappointed, Sam aplologizing for not getting the ashes when Bobby could have been nuked & Cas, just there.  Great backup: the doorbell rings, a delivery man from the same delivery company in the old west is standing there with a package from who else, Sam Colt! With Sam’s “thingie”, his very old & abused cellphone which he left minutes ago with Sam Colt, the Colt revolver & a note saying that he had gotten the address off of the phone & he figured that the boys could use the revolver! Oh yea… it works out!

With all of that, we come to Castiel whom I’m thinking is going dark side! We have a new blonde woman/angel, Rachel, who lasts all of about 2 minutes. The boys pray for Cas, get Rachel who has great disdain for them, Cas sends her back to the “war” with Cas then sending the boys to the old west! We then see Rachel confront Cas, she knows about his dirty little secret, proceeds to try & kill him with him killing her & of course apologizing for it! An injured Castiel drops in Bobby’s kitchen, crawls to the fridge to bloodily write an ward off angel’s symbol before we then continue to find out that souls are pure energy, nuclear bombs & because Cas is hurt, needs to use Bobby’s soul, which he could blow up rather easily, to have the strength to get the boys back! We find out huge amounts of info about Cas in a short time & it’s scary!!

Pop culture: Frontierland-ride at Disney, opening credits-Bonanza, Star Trek 4, Deep Space 9-Jim’s late wife was a character, I Dream of Jeannie, Phoeniz- the brothers & the bird, Miss Moneypenny-James Bond, Clint Eastwood movies especially the monkey ones(Clyde), Wally World-Walmart,  serape-Clint Eastwood, I’m a 1 man wolfpack-The Hangover, Deadwood-Jim was on this show for 3 yrs., Walker, Tx. Ranger- Chuck Norris character, candygram for Mango-Blazing Saddles, yippee ki yay mother-Die Hard, the delivery man-Back to the Future.

Their gold items were from the Dragon,  “Like a Virgin” & then the bartender Elkins is a long lost relative of Daniel Elkins where the boys first find the Colt to date!

This ep had soooo much info, too much to dissect now so I “will be bahhckk”, (the Terminator) with more thoughts about this chock full of crazy time travelin’ episode!! In the meantime, keep your eyes open for all things SUPERNATURAL!!
